Victorian State Relay Championships

What a great Saturday Geelong Guild had at the Victorian State Relay Championships.

We managed to claim a Gold medal in the U18 Men's 4x400 (Euan Spikers, Josh Perdisat, Mason Spikers and Harvey Murrant), a Silver medal in the U14 Women's 4x100 (Alexandra Roosje, Gabi Phillips, Sophia Powers and Alexandra Tarr) and another Silver medal in the 50+ Men's 4x100 (David Fossey, Trevor Dess, Geoff Wiffen and Nick Hodgson).

The day was far more than just these medals however. It was a day full of clubman ship, good running all round and a number of athletes putting the team before the individual and running up age groups, outside preferred distances and just genuinely making the club proud.

Every athlete that pulled on a Guild Singlet over the weekend but special mention must go to a few athletes. Euan Spikers backing up race after race, Alex Tarr running a superb 400m up an age group, and Summer Spikers for her stoic anchor effort despite wearing someone else’s clothes, and a set of spikes that were at least a size too big.

Our Open Women's 4x400 team has again qualified for the 4x400 final which will be held at Zatopek this coming weekend. Owing to the fact that this year the Australian All Schools Championships will also be held in Melbourne across the weekend there will be a number of our athletes competing across the weekend. Stay tuned for a complete list of who, when and where and if you can, get up to Lakeside Stadium and cheer on the Guild athletes!

For full results from the Championship see the attached document.

A huge thankyou to those athletes who competed and the parents who brought everyone up to Lakeside. It was a huge and enjoyable day and Paul and I appreciate the hard work and commitment that everybody involved has shown across the last week of training and on the day itself.
